Welcome to the Scenic Heights Outdoor Learning Center!
“Creating Stewards of the Environment”
Scenic Heights Elementary is fortunate to have 4.3 acres of natural habitat located on school property which includes three different ecosystems: forest, wetlands, and prairie. Since the summer of 2005, a committee of teachers and parents have worked together to restore the land into an Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) for students and the surrounding community.
In the past two years we have become a certified , started land restoration, created fundraising opportunities, and developed an environmental lending library and newsletter. Students have participated in several projects and learning experiences some of which include: naturalist classes, pond water study, tree planting, art and descriptive writing.
We have received tremendous support from many volunteers and organizations including the Scenic Heights PTA, district administration and employees, the Minnetonka Foundation, City of Minnetonka personnel, the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed Board, Three Rivers Park District, Minnesota DNR, Eagle scouts, scout troops, parents, and students. We are very grateful to each individual and every organization.
If you would like to get involved with our project see our needs link for ways you can participate. We invite you to walk through the OLC yourself and check it out. We are so excited to offer our students the chance to learn by interacting with nature and fostering in them a love and respect for our natural world.
