Homecoming in Minnetonka has a celebrated tradition. This weeklong event is based on an invitation of Minnetonka alumni to come back to the school. Homecoming week is early this year: September 16-21.
It begins with the election of the Homecoming Court (10 boys and 10 girls) by the senior class on Monday. Throughout the week students participate in activities, which include dress-up days and
other spirit-based activities.
Friday is the most exciting day of the week! At the pep-fest, the Homecoming king and queen are selected from the Homecoming Court. After that, they are part of the Homecoming Parade beginning at 4 p.m. along Water Street in Excelsior. Friday concludes with the Homecoming football game against our cross-town rivals—the Hopkins Royals.
The next morning, the girls participate in the Powder Puff game, which is a game of touch football. The week culminates with the Homecoming Dance which is hosted at the high school on Saturday night.
