The mission of the Media program is to insure that staff and students are effective users of ideas and information and to foster a life long love of reading.

We teach Information Literacy Skills (how to find, use, and evaluate information from a variety of sources.)
We provide information to users through a variety of online and print resources.
We offer literary enrichment through our collection development of books and other media materials.
We offer professional development for our staff, including curriculum collaboration.

Databases:

All of these databases are available from school. Some of these databases require passwords for use at home. Students should view their list of items in Single Sign On to access password-protected databases.

Boolean operators for searches:

AND, OR, NOT , phrase searching with quotation marks " ", wildcard searching with asterisk * (shift 8 on keyboard)

Secondary Search Engines

Google
Google searches an estimated 20 billion pages, with search results ranked by "popularity. Uses Boolean operators in "Advanced Search."
Ask
Searches an estimated 2 billion pages. Includes the old "Ask Jeeves" search engine. Allows question searching, for example "Why "Is the sky blue?" Uses Boolean operators in "Advanced Search."
Dogpile
Meta search engine searches Google, Yahoo,MSN, Ask. Uses Boolean operators in "Advanced Search."

Chose from 4 databases including Academic Search Premier designed specifically for academic institutions, a multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for more than 4,700 publications
ELM: Electronic Library for Minnesota
A World of Information for magazine, newspaper, and journal articles, eBooks, and information from reference sources?available to all Minnesota residents at no charge. Funded by the Minnesota Legislature.

The TeenLinks site features an extensive array of sources and materials. Articles from encyclopedias, newspapers, and magazines are available to be downloaded. Other resources include research guides, search engines, as well as direct access to the Library Catalog.

Easy-to-read information covering science, biographies, authors, multicultural topics, people and places.
